Ravichandra Kulur is a world-renowned flute prodigy, who was initiated into the area of Carnatic music at the tender age of just six. Ravichandra commenced his journey into the world of music under the guidance of his guru EP Narayana Pishari and father K Raghavendra Rao. At the tender age of nine, Ravichandra started performing in concerts – solo as well as duets with his father.
Although Ravichandra is an engineer by education, his calling always was for Carnatic classical music. In the year 1999, Ravichandra decided to nurture his classical flute playing skills to take up music professionally. Ravi has ever since grown as a musical whizz, molding a niche for himself and emerged as one of the most sought-after flautists in the world of classical music.
In the year 2005, this illustrious musician Pandit Ravi Shankar invited Ravichandra to join him in his acclaimed concert titled “Festival of India III”. Since then, Ravichandra has been the usual suspect in most of Ravi Shankar & Anoushka Shankar’s concerts around the world, which reiterates his need in the world of music.
Ravichandra, since his initial days into classical music, has in his name, over 1000 concerts performed in some of the majestic venues across 35 countries, including the USA, Portugal, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Belgium, and many more. He has collaborated concerts with some of the popular names in music, including Dr. M.Balamuralikrishna, Dr. L Subramaniam, Anoushka Shankar, Charlie Mariano, Steve Smith and Vital Information, A K Palanivel, Hariharan, SP Balasubramaniam, Kumaresh and Ganesh, Tarun Bhattacharya, Hans Hartmann, Karsh Kale, Ranjit Barot, Amit Heri, Tanmoy Bose, Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin trio), etc.
Ravichandra and Music festivals have always gone hand in hand. He has participated in over 1000 concerts, including – WOMAD in the UK, Roskilde in Denmark, Sfinks in Belgium, San Fransisco Jazz Festival, Helsinki Festival, Bangalore Habba, and many more.
